Do Lagotti shed?

The Lagotto Romagnolo is a non-shedding breed, and that means that they are less allergenic than shedding dogs. No dog is 100% hypoallergenic, but the Lagotti come close! Their curly coats come in a variety of colors (no black), and periodic grooming is important to prevent matting. You can find more information about grooming your Lagotto Romagnolo on our Breed Info page.

Do Lagotti need a lot of exercise?

Your Lagotto Romagnolo will need daily exercise. Ideally, this will include a minimum of one hour of off-leash romping. Mental exercise is also important, as this is an intelligent breed that wants to learn, explore, and figure things out! Lagotti do not like to be left alone all day, so please take that into consideration. If your life requires you to be away from your dog for a large part of the day, you might look into doggy daycare or a pet walking service.

Are Lagotti good with kids?

Yes! Our first Lagotto Romagnolo joined our household when our son was only 4 years old. The real question is are your kids good with dogs? As long as your child is respectful of the puppy (no grabbing, tail pulling, etc.), your Lagotto Romagnolo will love living in a house with children.

What do you recommend feeding a Lagotto Romagnolo puppy?

We love talking to new puppy owners about feeding and nutrition, so let’s discuss this important topic. Your pup’s quality of life depends heavily on what and how it is fed. There is a lot of confusing and conflicting information (especially on the internet!) about how and what to feed dogs. We can tell you about our experiences, and share best practices for what to look for in a high-quality dog diet. The short answer is that dogs do best on a diet that includes fresh, raw, on-the-bone protein sources. For more information, see our Breed Info page and contact us.
